Dr. Nathan Skelley

Dr. Nathan Skelley is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine at the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute. His passion for sports and musculoskeletal medicine developed through earning a black belt first degree in Sho-Tae-Ryu martial arts. He is originally from Joplin, Missouri but did most of his medical training on the East Coast. Although he has worked at some of the most prestigious medical centers in the country, including earning his medical degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completing his fellowship at Harvard Medical School where he helped care for the NFL New England Patriots, these experiences have been stepping stones to earning a spot on Dancing With the Missouri Stars!

His research in musculoskeletal medicine has been presented at national and international meetings. He’s published textbooks, review articles, book chapters, and numerous research manuscripts related to orthopaedics. He has also served in leadership positions on several national societies including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the American Orthopaedic Association.  He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Missouri State Orthopaedic Association and is a lifetime member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. Through these positions, he has advocated for medical health policy improvements in Jefferson City and Washington, D.C. He strives for excellence in musculoskeletal education, research and clinical care. His greatest honor is getting his patients back in the game and back to the activities they love to do after sustaining a musculoskeletal injury.

Dr. Skelley follows in a long line of successful dancers from the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute including Daniel Hoernschemeyer, Bob Schaal, and Ben Summerhays. They left some big shoes for Dr. Skelley to fill—so did his sister, Allison, who was a dance minor in college and his grandmother, Ida, who competed throughout the country in dance competitions. He will be channeling the experiences and support of his colleagues, family, and friends to meet the high expectations and goals of his partner Nikki. With surgical precision, they plan to take the DWMS stage by storm! Help them reach their goal today—support and vote for Nikki and Nathan!
