Komar Yem is a co-owner and chef at the popular Sake Japanese Bistro, located in downtown Columbia. Having spent over two decades working alongside several talented culinary enthusiasts, Komar’s passion for food focuses heavily on modern Japanese cuisine.
As a Columbia native, he advocates behind the scenes for local culinary development and the use of locally grown ingredients.
He is self-taught and serves as a silent inspiration in the industry. Komar’s positive attitude and infinite energy encourages others to work hard and further develop their culinary passions.
He is inspired every day by his furry canine partner Bernard and continuously driven by his life’s motto, “You cannot dream yourself into a character, you must hammer and forge yourself into one”, (James Anthony Froude).
In his free time, Komar enjoys cycling, exploring a diverse range of cuisines, (as well as a lot of cocktails, wines and micro-brews), and listening to audiobooks with Bernard.
